Shapes of complexity. Crossing perspectives

As Stephen Hawking stated, “I think the next century will be the century of complexity.” This resonates with Italo Calvino’s reflection: “On the one hand there is the attitude needed today to face the complexity of reality, refusing simplistic visions that only confirm our habits of representing the world, what we need today is the most detailed map of the labyrinth possible. On the other hand, there is the fascination of the labyrinth, of representing this absence of exit routes as the true condition of man (...) while bearing in mind that they cannot always be distinguished with a clean cut.” Together, they highlight the urgent need for a cognitive framework capable of engaging with complexity in both analytical and existential terms.
